A call for the club’s next Website Chair

Every generation of NCR‑PCA.ORG has been developed by a volunteer who simply decided it was time to give something back. That’s how this whole story has unfolded — not through committees or consultants, but through members who raised their hand and said,

“I can help.”

If you’ve ever wondered whether you could be one of those people, let me tell you a quick story.

When I first thought about volunteering, I wasn’t an expert. I wasn’t a lifelong webmaster. I was just beginning my third year as a member, still enjoying the excitement of buying my first Porsche — a used 2001 996 Cabriolet with only 400 miles on the odometer. My introduction to Porsche began thirty-six years earlier during a snowstorm when I had my first ride in a 912. I was the navigator on a Saturday night beer run with a recently returned Army lieutenant. It was an experience that I still vividly remember today.

In 2005, I was still riding that new owner high and looking to give something back to the club that had introduced me to the activities that allowed me to enjoy my Porsche.

What pushed me over the edge wasn’t confidence — it was curiosity. In early 2006 I was part of a team evaluating open‑source software during a consulting assignments, and the website chair role looked like a chance to turn theory into practice. It was a chance to learn, to build, to contribute. That was my WIIFM — What’s In It For Me? Lifelong learning. A new challenge. A way to help the club communicate better.

And that’s the truth about this role:
You don’t volunteer because you know everything.
You volunteer because you want to contribute and make a difference.

Over the last three articles, we’ve walked through the history, functionality, and technology of NCR‑PCA.ORG. You’ve seen how far the site has come — from a handful of HTML pages in 1998 to a modern, integrated platform with thousands of photos, hundreds of articles, and tools that support every corner of club life. You’ve seen the volunteers who built it, the systems that power it, and the infrastructure that keeps it secure.

Now comes the most important part:
Where should NCR‑PCA.ORG go next?

That answer depends on one thing — the next volunteer who steps forward.

Maybe that’s you.

Maybe you’re someone who enjoys organizing information.
Maybe you’re curious about web technology.
Maybe you want to help the club communicate better.
Maybe you just want to give back the way others once did for you.

You don’t need to be a developer.
You don’t need to be a designer.
You don’t need to know Joomla or cPanel or Cloudflare on day one.

What you do need is the willingness to learn and the desire to help.

The website chair role can be whatever you make it.
Hands‑on builder? Absolutely.
Coordinator and organizer? That works too.
A mix of both? Even better.
